ASFA creative writing students learn their art through solitary struggle over a keyboard and in critiques with peers and teachers. They refine their work, always searching for a better word, a more precise turn-of-phrase, a more compelling form of expression. Students learn to think critically, and they expand their sensitivity to the human condition while simultaneously honing their technical skill. Through reading, discussion, writing, and revision, ASFA writers learn and practice the writing process, producing poems, stories, and essays while discovering and developing their individual, artistic voices.
