Cumbee Tyndal

Cumbee Tyndal graduated from the University of the South, Sewanee, with a B.A. in Art History.  She worked as an Assistant Curator of Paintings and Sculpture at the Birmingham Museum of Art where she helped organized several large scale traveling exhibitions including "The Expressionist Landscape" and "Looking South: A Different Dixie".  In 1991, Tyndal earned an M.A. in Art History and Criticism from the State University of New York at Stony Brook where she studied under notable critic Donald Kuspit.  She then worked in Manhattan for Michael Werner Gallery and Pamela Auchincloss Gallery. She was also awarded a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts to conduct a series on contemporary art criticism at Space One Eleven.  In 1995, Tyndal earned an M.A. in Art Education from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and became a Visual Arts Instructor and Director of the Vulcan Materials Gallery at ASFA.  Tyndal curates two professional exhibitions each year and shows her own work in galleries around Birmingham.
