Alabama School of Fine Arts math-science students Mohamed Alzoubi, Trisha Bheemanathini, Tobias Guo, and James Shi have been selected as National Merit Semifinalists. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. They were selected based on their scores on the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

Semifinalist are the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors. The students will be competing for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered in the spring.
