ASFA Creative Writers Bring In the High School Literary Arts Awards

Please join us in congratulating the following ASFA Creative Writing students for their recognition in this year’s High School Literary Arts Awards sponsored by the Alabama Writers’ Forum:

  • Lauren Underberg – The Judith Hillman Paterson Award for Excellence in Essay Writing
  • Ash Pierce – First Place, Fiction
  • Lily Wilson – Cash Award Winner, Creative Nonfiction (Short Essay); Certificate of Merit, Poetry
  • Kyra Richardson – Third Place, Creative Nonfiction (Long Essay)
  • Violet Marty – Judge’s Special Recognition, Creative Nonfiction (Long Essay)
  • Will Bittner – Judge’s Special Recognition, Fiction; Certificates of Merit, Creative Nonfiction (Long Essay) and Poetry

We’re excited that ASFA students claimed the statewide competition’s highest awards in all three genres this year, and Cadence again claimed the highest award in the literary magazine category – special congrats to Iris Rinke-Hammer and her student editors for their hard work in putting the magazine together, and to all our students for contributing such exemplary work, year after year.
