Caroline Nordlund

Caroline Nordlund teaches at the Alabama School of Fine Arts and Samford
University. As a member of the faculty Samford Quartet, she has performed throughout the
Southeast, Dominican Republic, and most recently, Carnegie Hall. She is sought-after as
adjudicator and lecturer, giving sessions at the Alabama Music Educator’s Conference and the
National American String Teachers Association Conference. She has also been featured in the
“Ask the Experts” column of The Strad.

Caroline is a former faculty member of the Lutheran Summer Music Festival and served
as the Past-President of Alabama ASTA. She also directed the Scrollworks Youth Music School of
Birmingham.

Caroline earned a Master’s degree in violin performance and pedagogy as a student of
Gerardo Ribeiro, Stacia Spencer, and James Kjelland. While on the violin and Kindermusik
faculties of the Northwestern University Music Academy, Caroline served as Assistant Group
Director of Northwestern Strings, a premier performing group of young violinists. Originally
from South Carolina, Caroline graduated summa cum laude from the University of South
Carolina with a Bachelor of Music in violin performance as a student of Frits de Jonge.
Caroline enjoys performing with her band String Theory Birmingham alongside her
husband, cellist Samuel Nordlund. They are the founders of Encore Strings Birmingham
Summer Academy, a chamber music festival for students ages 7-18 held yearly at Vestavia Hills
Baptist Church.
