Math & Science students win awards at the state Science Olympiad

Congratulations to the 27 Math and Science Department students who represented ASFA at the 2021 Alabama State Science Olympiad Competition organized by Auburn University. There were 35 teams from 28 middle school and junior high schools that competed virtually on Saturday, March 27. Six schools, including ASFA, fielded two teams. The competition included challenges in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

 

ASFA won second and fourth place overall in the competitions. (See school rankings below.)

 

Among the 15 events, ASFA won five gold medalsseven silver medals, and six bronze medals. There were 17 students who won at least one of the top-three award in the events in which they competed

 

All students who wanted to compete were given a chance. Team members were randomly selected, and no one team was considered superior to the other.

 

Founded in 1984, Science Olympiad is one of the nation's premier science competitions, providing rigorous, standards-based challenges to 7,800 teams in all 50 states. The competitions are designed to enhance science education quality, increase student interest in science, and recognize student achievement in these events.
