Good morning! These are your morning announcements. 

 

This Friday marks the beginning of ASFA's Alumni Weekend. Several departments have events arranged where alumni will speak to current students about their experiences since leaving ASFA.  

 

Creative Writing will unveil this year’s literary magazine Cadence in the ASFA Lobby from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Pop in when you can for this event that includes Poetry-on-Demand (for instance for Mother’s Day), a reading by some students, and a display of 3-D literary artifacts created by students.   

 

The Music Department will present its final public performance of the year in the DJD on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. with a choral presentation of Carmina Burana. 

 

If you are a high school student interested in filmmaking and storytelling, make plans to attend the Urban Avenues Film Camp taking place at ASFA this summer, June 12th-16th!  Work with industry professionals from Fuji Films and local professionals on developing and pitching a project, learning production planning, filming, and editing, all while developing your creative voice!  The application window is open now, so visit www.urbanavenues.com  and click on “Urban Avenues Film Camp” to apply!   

 

Please remember that only the following students may use the elevators: 

 

  • Dorm students accessing the 3rd floor after school hours (or during school hours with permission from an ASFA adult) 
  • Music Students carrying double bass, tuba, harp, or baritone saxophone 
  • Students with direct permission from an ASFA adult for the purposes of moving large objects between floors 
  • Students with documentation* of a disabling condition preventing use of stairs       *To have documentation reviewed and approved, please have your parent/guardian contact our ASFA Nurse, Elizabeth Rochester (erochester@asfa.k12.al.us), to provide medical documentation. 

Congratulations to the 8th-grade math team members who competed in Pizitz Middle School’s annual math team tournament, which was virtual this year. Three students received individual awards for the written test: 

4th Place = Shreyas Keshava 

3rd Place = Shreya Tandon 

1st Place = Raymond Liu with a perfect score! 

  

The ASFA team also received the top 4 scores for the written test and the ciphering round and placed 1st in their division! Usman Sehbai, Ibrahim Hossain, and Omri Hyde are the other team members who also contributed to the team’s success.  

 

Congratulations to Math/Science 10th grader  William Peng who was awarded the level of Honors in the American Chemical Society's National Chemistry Olympiad and placed among the top 150 High School Chemistry Students in the nation. Do you have an entrepreneurial spirit and have created an interesting product to sell? ASFA wants to support and encourage you by holding a Student Entrepreneur Fair during Homeroom/Lunch next Thursday! Sign up to sell your merchandise to students, faculty, and staff.   Merchandise cannot be food or drink items but can be jewelry/accessories, artwork, etc. This will be a cash-only event and purchasers will pay you directly. If you have Venmo, CashApp, or ApplePay, you may also use those services. Sign up if you're interested in showcasing and selling your work! There are only 15 slots available, so sign up early! The deadline to sign up is Monday, May 15th.
